Apart from Social Darwinism, the thing that separates these two men from the rest is their unsettling and uncanny ability to discover and create trends. They find the parts of things that people actually give a shit about, whatever they may be, and focus on creating and improving those parts. With live sets and productions that their own mothers describe as, "sounds nice, but a little loud," these two always put on a show that was not ever described as sexy and life-changing, but should be. Apart from their unique personalities and boyish good looks, they have many similarities. They each graduated from prestigious North-Eastern Universities, they like hot chicks in yoga pants, enjoy a good burger, and have been rejected from many of the venues they now play at. The Chainsmokers have become the hottest young American EDM DJ duo. Their live shows are becoming the most sought after in EDM. Their wild antics, hilarious personalities, and addicting productions have fans interacting with them non stop and running to see them live every chance they get. Their signature sound has its foundations in Indie, Progressive and Pop Music. On the production front, their original tracks have all reached the Beatport top charts and their remixes always hit #1 on the HypeM charts. They've gotten immense support by friends such as Nicky Romero, Steve Aoki, Pete Tong, Afrojack, Tiesto, W&W, and more. Now, the artist/producer/remixer/DJ is about to release his long awaited debut album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule on Columbia Records. First recognized for helping to bring the tribal dance movement Moombahton to the forefront, he's scattered the dance music landscape with numerous influential EPs thus far, but it's the effervescent debut album that the music world has been patiently waiting for. Tracks include "Get Low" with DJ Snake, the anthemic "Love in the Middle of a Firefight" featuring Brendon Urie (from Panic! At The Disco), "When We Were Young" featuring Sultan + Ned Shepard VS Chain Gang of 1974, "We Make It Bounce" featuring Major Lazer & Stylo G, "Set Me Free" featuring producer/DJ Martin Garrix, and the gritty, mind-blowing "All That" featuring Twista and The Rejectz. Dillon's journey was full of pit-stops. First he attended art school, then he became a 'trainee' in a photography studio where he realized, "I didn't want to do that – I wanted to play and make music, kind of knowing I was going to have to 'make' the music I wanted to hear." After spending some time in Atlanta interning for Cory Enemy to get to know the dance music scene, he would move back to LA and hole up in the back house of his parents' place, getting to know his Ableton Live, 24/7. One story he relishes is his own personal revelation about Moombahton. "I was introduced to the artist Munchi because he had done a remix for Steve Starks on the same song ("Git 'Em") I did, except his was ten times better. I started scouring his SoundCloud, listening to everything. The tracks that were genre labeled "Moombahton" were the only tracks I couldn't figure out the tempo of by just listening to them," says Dillon. "So I started experimenting with my own productions." Later, Dillon would play a cut of his own for DJ Ruckus, who he was working for at the time, slowed down to 110 bpms. Ruckus loved the track ('Masta Blasta') so much, Dillon convinced his manager to send the track to Diplo. "And that was my break," he says. After solidifying his fanbase with a few highly-regarded EPs, RL Grime independently released his first studio album, VOID, in 2014. It premiered as the #1 Electronic album in the United States and remained in that position for a month. At that point—with over 150 million plays, rave reviews and magazine covers, and sets at the biggest festivals in the world including Coachella & Lollapalooza—most artists would settle for their success. RL Grime stuck to his underground roots and further limited his releases. He collaborated with artists including Big Sean, Miguel, and Skrillex, and starred in Alexander Wang's #WANGSQUAD alongside Travis Scott & Zoe Kravitz. RL Grime has distinguished himself as an innovator in music, delicately treading the line between mainstream and an independent sound, the underground and the accessible, popular music and artistry. In 2019, he went on to establish his own record label called Sable Valley, serving as a platform to highlight emerging talent that he believes in and allowing up-and-coming artists to share their artistic voice with the world on their terms.
